Removing and installing front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter

Removing –  Lift off engine cover -arrows-.

–  If fitted, detach cover -1- on right of engine compartment.

–  Disengage activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1 -N80--item 1- at air duct. –  Remove bolts -arrows-. –  Remove air duct -2-.

–  Disconnect air pipes -1- and -2-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -1- at air mass meter -G70-. –  Disconnect hose -2-, if fitted. –  Remove fastener -3- and detach air cleaner housing.

–  Unbolt coolant expansion tank -arrow-. –  Unplug electrical wire for coolant shortage indicator switch -F66- at bottom of expansion tank and move expansion tank to one side with coolant hoses -1- and -2- attached.

–  Unplug electrical connectors -2- for Lambda probe after catalytic converter -G130- and -5- for Lambda probe -G39-. –  Move wires clear towards bottom of vehicle.

–  Unscrew bolt connections at catalytic converter/exhaust manifold -arrows-.   Note Unscrew nuts from catalytic converter side.

–  Vehicles with auxiliary heater: remove bolts -arrows- securing exhaust pipe for auxiliary/additional heater to noise insulation.

–  Release quick-release fasteners -1- and -2- and take off front noise insulation. –  If fitted, open quick-release fasteners -3- and remove rear noise insulation.

–  Unbolt heat shield -1- for drive shaft (right-side).

–  Unscrew nut -arrow- at bracket for front exhaust pipe.   Note

To avoid any damage, the flexible joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°. –  Separate exhaust system at clamp -arrows-. –  Remove front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew seals and gaskets. t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue. –  Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter. Tightening torques

1)  Renew nuts.
