Removing and installing bracket for ancillaries Removing   Caution Observe notes on procedure for disconnecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27. –  Disconnect earth wire at battery with ignition switched off. –  Drain off coolant → Chapter. –  Move lock carrier to service position → Chapter.   Note

Before removing, mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage. –  Turn the tensioner in the direction of the -arrow- to slacken the poly V-belt. –  Remove poly V-belt.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove poly V-belt tensioner. –  Remove alternator → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27

–  Remove support for intake manifold (unscrew bolts -arrows-).

–  Unscrew front bolts -arrows- for power steering pump.

–  Unscrew rear bolt -arrow- for power steering pump. –  Move power steering pump aside and place onto longitudinal member. Leave pipes connected. –  Remove coolant pipe (bottom) → Chapter. –  Remove thermostat housing → Chapter.

–  Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at oil level and oil temperature sender -G266-.

–  Unbolt refrigerant pipe bracket from sump -arrow-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -1- for magnetic clutch on air conditioner compressor.   Caution The air conditioner refrigerant circuit must not be opened. –  Unscrew air conditioner compressor from bracket -arrows-.   Note To prevent damage to the refrigerant lines, ensure that the pipes and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent. –  Tie up air conditioner compressor to vehicle, with lines attached.

–  Remove bolts -1 ... 6- on bracket for ancillaries. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Always remove remaining locking fluid from the tapped holes in the cylinder block prior to assembly. Otherwise the new bolts can seize when screwed in, and then shear off if they have to be subsequently removed. t  This can be done using a thread tap. –  Insert bolts securing bracket for ancillaries with locking fluid; Locking fluid → Parts catalogue. –  Tighten bolts in the sequence -1 ... 6-. –  Install air conditioner compressor → Air conditioning system; Rep. gr.87 –  Install thermostat housing → Chapter. –  Install coolant pipe (bottom) → Chapter. –  Install power steering pump → Running gear, front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; Rep. gr.48. –  To facilitate positioning of alternator, power steering pump and air conditioner compressor, drive back bush for securing bolt slightly. –  Install alternator → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27 –  Install poly V-belt → Chapter.

–  Install lock carrier with attachments → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50. –  Allow stop for torque reaction support to rest on rubber buffer for torque reaction support under its own weight and tighten nuts -arrows-. –  Install front bumper cover → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.63. –  Observe notes on procedures required after connecting battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27. –  Fill cooling system → Anchor. –  Check headlight adjustment → Booklet8E. Tightening torques
