Depending on version, a one-piece catalytic converter can be fitted instead of the two-piece catalytic converters → Item shown.
1 - Centre silencer
q   Combined in one unit with rear silencer as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   Cutting point → Anchor
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
2 - 23 Nm
3 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter „Stress-free alignment of exhaust system“
4 - Front exhaust pipe with main catalytic converter
q   With flexible joint
q   Do not bend flexible joint more than 10° - otherwise it can be damaged
q   Protect against knocks and impact
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Components of exhaust pipe mountings: vehicles with manual gearbox → Fig., vehicles with multitronic gearbox → Fig.
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
5 - 27 Nm
q   Renew
6 - Gasket
q   Renew
7 - Starter catalytic converter
q   Protect against knocks and impact
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
8 - 27 Nm
q   Renew
q   Coat with high-temperature lubricant; for high-temperature lubricant refer to → Parts catalogue
9 - Gasket
q   Renew
10 - Turbocharger
q   Renew gasket between turbocharger and starter catalytic converter
11 - Front clamp(s)
q   Before tightening, align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
q   Installation position on one-piece catalytic converter → Fig.
q   Installation position on two-piece catalytic converter → Fig.
q   Tighten bolt connections evenly
12 - M8 = 23 Nm; M10 = 40 Nm
13 - Rear silencer
q   For left side of vehicle
q   Combined in one unit with centre silencer as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   Cutting point → Anchor
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
14 - 23 Nm
15 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter „Stress-free alignment of exhaust system“
16 - 23 Nm
17 - Rear silencer
q   For right side of vehicle
q   Combined in one unit with centre silencer as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   Cutting point → Anchor
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
18 - Clamp (rear)
q   For separate replacement of centre and rear silencers
q   Before tightening, align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
q   Installation position → Fig.
q   Tighten bolt connections evenly
19 - M8 = 23 Nm; M10 = 40 Nm
20 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter „Stress-free alignment of exhaust system“
21 - 23 Nm

   
Installation position of front clamp - vehicles with one-piece catalytic converter
–  Install clamp so that ends of bolts do not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
l  Bolt connection faces to left.

Installation position of front clamp - vehicles with two-piece catalytic converter
–  Fit clamps so that ends of bolts do not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
l  Bolt connections face one another.

Installation position of rear clamps
–  Fit clamps so that ends of bolts do not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
