Removing and installing exhaust manifold (right-side) Removing l  Engine removed and in position on scissor-type assembly platform -VAS 6131 A- with gearbox attached.   Note t  Fit all heat shields and heat insulation sleeves in the original positions when installing. t  All cable ties which are released or cut open when removing must be fitted in the same position when installing.

–  Remove electrical connectors -1- and -2- from bracket on gearbox. –  Unplug electrical connectors. –  Detach heat insulation sleeve at wiring harness and release individual electrical wires.

–  Unscrew bolt -2- at bracket for front exhaust pipe (right-side).   Note Disregard -item 1-.

–  Unscrew nuts -arrows- securing front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold (right-side). –  Take out front exhaust pipe with starter and main catalytic converter.

–  Unscrew nuts -1 ... 6- and remove exhaust manifold (right-side). Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew gasket and self-locking nuts. t  Fit all heat shields and heat insulation sleeves in the original positions when installing. t  All cable ties which are released or cut open when removing must be fitted in the same position when installing.

–  Fit gasket onto studs. –  Fit exhaust manifold in mounting strips and tighten nuts hand-tight. –  Tighten nuts for exhaust manifold in 2 stages as follows: 1.  Pre-tighten nuts in the sequence -1 ... 6- to 20 Nm. 2.  Tighten nuts in the sequence -1 ... 6- to 30 Nm. –  Install front exhaust pipe (right-side) → Chapter. Tightening torque
