t  If the fuel tank is less than 1/3 full, the baffle housing in the tank should first be filled before starting to bleed the system. Proceed as follows:
t  Clamp off fuel supply hose going to fuel filter using a hose clamp -3094- at the position shown. (Rear left hose)
t  Operate remote control switch for about 30 seconds to fill baffle housing (fuel pump should run audibly).
t  Then remove hose clamp -3094- from fuel supply hose going to fuel filter.

–  Clamp off fuel return hoses between filter and fuel tank and between filter and injection pump using hose clamps -3094-.
  A20-0591
–  Detach fuel return line -3- coming from injectors of right-side cylinder bank at injection pump.
–  Fit a suitable length of transparent hose -1- onto the free connection at the injection pump and run the hose into a suitable container (fuel canister or similar).
–  Operate remote control switch until fuel comes out of hose free of bubbles.
–  Reconnect fuel return line to injection pump.
–  Remove hose clamps -3094- from fuel return hoses.
  Note
Under certain conditions the engine control unit switches off the pump in the fuel tank, so the pump must be actuated by means of the remote control switch when starting the engine for the first time after bleeding the system.
–  Press the remote control switch and at the same time operate the starter until the engine starts.
  Caution
Do not prolong attempted starting for more than 15 seconds. If engine does not start, repeat bleed operation.
–  Continue to press remote control switch for approx. 30 seconds after engine has started.
–  Then stop engine and remove remote control.
–  Re-install fuse in fuse holder -S228- (fuse position 28).
–  Start engine again and inspect fuel system for leaks (visual check).
–  Leave engine idling under no load for at least 5 minutes (to fully bleed fuel system).
