Special tools and workshop equipment required

• ◆ V.A.G 1318

Test requirements:

• ● Fuel pump relay OK; check
• ● Fuel pump OK; checking:

=> Fuel Supply System - Petrol Engines; Repair Group 20; Fuel supply - Front-wheel drive or Fuel supply - Four-wheel drive

• ● Fuel filter OK
• ● Battery voltage at least 11 V

Checking system pressure

• ‒ Briefly open tank cap (pressure dissipation).
• ‒ Remove engine covers.

• ‒ → Unfasten union -4- and catch fuel emerging with a rag.
• ‒ Connect up pressure gauge V.A.G 1318 with adapters 1318/7 and 1318/15 to supply pipe.

• ‒ Open pressure gauge cut-off valve. Lever must point in direction of flow.
• ‒ With engine switched off and ignition switched on, start final control diagnosis (self-diagnosis mode) in engine control unit using VAS 5051 and actuate fuel tank breather valve or any other component.

Note:

This step is simply used to actuate the electric fuel pump in the fuel tank. Actuation and clicking of the fuel tank breather valve is a side-effect and can be ignored here. If final control diagnosis is to be performed twice in succession, the engine must be started between the two diagnosis procedures. The pressure gauge can remain connected.

• ‒ Measure fuel pressure.
• ‒ Specification: approx. 6 bar (5.7 bar... 6.3 bar)
• ‒ If reading does not match specification, check electric fuel pump
