Checking ignition system
Safety precautions
Heed the following so as to avoid possible injury and/or the destruction of the injection and ignition system:

◆ Never touch/disconnect ignition cables with engine running or at cranking speed.

◆ Always switch off ignition before disconnecting and connecting ignition system wires (also applies to H.T. wires and measuring instrument leads).

◆ If engine is to be operated at cranking speed without it starting (e.g. compression test), unplug connectors from ignition coils and injectors.

◆ Certain tests may lead to a fault being detected by the control unit and stored. The fault memory is therefore to be interrogated and if necessary erased on completion of all tests and repair work. Readiness code must be generated after erasing fault memory.

◆ Always switch off ignition before washing engine.

◆ Always switch off ignition before disconnecting and connecting battery so as not to damage engine control unit.
