Servicing drive shaft (with 108 mm dia. inner constant velocity joint)

Removing outer constant velocity joint

Clamp drive shaft in vice.
Use jaw protectors.

Open hose clip.
–
Push back boot.
–
Apply a copper or brass drift to the inner ring of the constant velocity joint, and drive off using a hammer.

Take off joint.
Installing outer constant velocity joint
–
Push joint boot onto drive shaft.
–
Fit new circlip.
Always renew circlip.

Pack 80 g of drive shaft grease inside joint body.

Grease splines

on drive shaft lightly with grease used in joint before fitting joint or triple roller spider onto drive shaft.
–
Screw old bolt into CV joint as shown.
–
Use plastic hammer to drive joint onto drive shaft until circlip engages.
–
Pack 40 g of drive shaft grease into joint on boot side.
–
Vent air from boot.
–
Secure hose clip.
