Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
The diagonal struts (front/rear) are only fitted on Cabriolet models.
   
Removing
–  Before removing front diagonal struts, remove outer front underbody trim. → Rep. Gr.66
–  Before removing rear diagonal struts, remove rear underbody trim -1-. → Rep. Gr.66

–  If the same diagonal struts -1-, -5- or -6- are to be re-installed, mark the position of the diagonal struts in relation to the body with a felt pen or similar.
3 - Subframe
–  Lower vehicle onto its wheels.
–  Slacken off bolts -2- and -4-.
–  Raise vehicle.
–  Remove bolts -2- and -4-.
–  Take off diagonal struts -1-, -5- and -6-.

Installing
–  Align diagonal struts -1-, -5- and -6- with tapped holes or markings on body.
–  Fit new bolts -2- and -4-, but do not tighten yet.
–  Lower vehicle onto its wheels and bounce suspension several times.
–  Tighten bolts -2- and -4-.
Tightening torque: 65 Nm
–  Install outer front underbody trim and/or rear underbody trim. → Rep. Gr.66
