Operation of tyre pressure monitoring system
Operation of tyre pressure monitoring system
Function:
The tyre pressure monitoring system is operated via the steering column lever or the operating unit in the centre console.
The system monitors the tyre inflation pressures that have been set by the operator and stored as reference values.
–  The inflation pressures must first be checked and corrected before being stored in the system.
–  Start by checking and correcting the inflation pressure of the tyres on the vehicle (including spare wheel) according to the figures listed on the sticker on the fuel filler flap.
Wheel change / storing tyre pressures via steering column lever (right-side)
To ensure reliable operation of the tyre pressure monitoring system, the specified tyre pressures must be stored correctly. The system will then automatically “learn” the new figures.
Proceed as follows:
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Press Reset button on steering column lever.
–  Using the rocker switch, select the “Set” function in the instrument cluster and confirm by pressing the Reset button.
–  Using the rocker switch, select “Tyre pressure” in the instrument cluster and confirm by pressing the Reset button.
–  Using the rocker switch, select “Store tyre pressures” or “Wheel change” in the instrument cluster and confirm by pressing the Reset button.
The new tyre pressures must be stored as reference values whenever the inflation pressures are changed intentionally and after every wheel change.

Re-coding tyre pressure monitor control unit -J502-
The new control unit must be coded if the tyre pressure monitor control unit -J502- is renewed. Proceed as follows:
–  Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- and select “Function/component” for function test.
Then
–  “Running gear”
–  “Tyre pressure monitoring system”
–  “01 - Self-diagnosis compatible systems”
–  “J502 - Tyre pressure monitor control unit”
–  “Tyre pressure monitor functions”
–  “J502 - Code control unit”
