Aerial system with diversity function
Aerial system with diversity function
The radio systems “symphony”, (from MY 02 onwards) “concert” and (from MY 05 onwards) “chorus” feature an aerial system with diversity function. This is designed to enhance and optimise reception quality.
In addition to the roof aerial or rear window aerial with amplifier, aerials with amplifier in the rear window or side windows are used.
The individual aerials with amplifier are connected via the aerial selection control unit -J515- (diversity box).
The signal from aerial selection control unit -J515- is received by the radio -R- via the aerial wire HF (high frequency) and is checked and the result of the cheeck is sent out again by an additional aerial connection ZF (intermediate frequency) to aerial selection control unit -J515-.
If the signal is too weak, the aerial selection control unit -J515- switches to a different aerial (diversity function).
There are no visible or audible signs of this switching process.
The process is identical with “switching diversity”.
With “phase diversity”, the radio -R- receives its signals via two internal tuners with one input each (AM/FM1, FM2).
If the incoming signal is affected by interference, the two signals are digitalised in the radio unit -R- after passing through the tuners, and then separated in such a way that the interference is largely eliminated.
If there is no interference in the incoming signal, the radio unit -R- will continuously compare the signals from the two aerials (amplifiers) to determine which is the stronger signal. This is then passed on accordingly.
In this case, the second tuner will scan through the frequency band in the background to locate better reception frequencies for the current station. If a better signal is found, this tuner will then be used for reception and the other tuner is faded into the background.
