Converting headlights for driving on the left or right side of the road
Converting headlights for driving on the left or right side of the road
When travelling in countries where the vehicle is to be driven on the other side of the road, both headlights must be adjusted to prevent dazzling by the asymmetric dipped beam.
Procedure
  WARNING
High voltage! Danger to life!
Safety precautions when handling gas discharge lamps → Electrical system; General information; Rep. Gr.94.
Headlight (left-side):
–  Remove headlight → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 1.6 ltr. and 2.0 ltr. MPI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 1.8 ltr. turbo engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 2.0 ltr. FSI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Right headlight - vehicles with 6-cyl. petrol engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Right headlight - vehicles with 8-cyl. petrol engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Right headlight - vehicles with 4-cyl. TDI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Right headlight - vehicles with 6-cyl. TDI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
   
Both sides (continued):
–  Release retaining clip -arrow- and detach housing cover for dipped beam from headlight housing.

–  Check position of adjustment lever -1- at both headlights.
l  Lever down = Driving on left
l  Lever up = Driving on right
–  If necessary, swivel lever until it engages in desired position -arrow-.
–  Secure housing cover with retaining clip.
–  Install headlight → Anchor.
