Special tools and workshop equipment required

Removing
  Note
Return ring with slip ring must be removed/installed in centre position (wheels in straight ahead position).
–  Move steering wheel down and to rear as far as possible; make use of the full range of the steering column adjuster.
–  Remove airbag unit → Rep. Gr.69.
–  Remove steering wheel → Rep. Gr.48.
–  Unscrew bolts -4- and -5- (use screwdriver T8 -T40056 A-) and hexagon socket head bolt -6-.

–  Release the trim cover -1- on the steering wheel column trim (top) -2- using a small screwdriver -arrows A and B-.
–  Unscrew TORX bolts -4- and -5- and hexagon socket head bolt -6-.
–  Separate upper trim -2- for steering column switch from lower trim -3- and remove upper trim.
–  Detach release lever for steering column adjustment -7- and guide out lower trim.

–  Unplug electrical connector (top) at return ring with slip ring.
–  Carefully release fasteners -arrows- and pull return ring with slip ring -1- off steering column switch module.
  Note
Shown with steering column switch module removed for illustration purposes.
Installing
Further installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
–  Make sure all fasteners and the electrical connectors are properly engaged.
–  Insert top trim for steering column switch in hooks for bottom trim, press both sections together and tighten bolts.
–  Install steering wheel → Rep. Gr.48.
–  Install airbag unit → Rep. Gr.69.
