Vehicles with 1.9 ltr. or 2.0 ltr. 2 V TDI engine from 06.2003 Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Locking pin -T10060 A-

Removing –  With ignition switched off, disconnect earth cable at battery → Chapter. –  Move lock carrier to service position → Rep. Gr.13. Vehicles with 1.9 ltr. engine: –  Pull oil dipstick -1- out of guide tube. –  Unclip caps. –  Unscrew nuts -arrows- and detach engine cover. –  Remove insulation beneath cover. –  Re-insert dipstick in guide tube.

Vehicles with 2.0 ltr. engine: –  Pull off engine cover -arrows-.

All models:   Note Before removing, mark running direction of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. If the belt runs in the wrong direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage. –  To slacken poly V-belt, pivot tensioner for poly V-belt in direction of -arrow- and lock in place using locking pin -T10060 A-. –  Remove poly V-belt from alternator pulley.

–  Unplug connector -2-. –  Unscrew terminal 30/B+ -Item 1-. –  Move wiring clear.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows-. –  Remove alternator.

Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following: –  To facilitate positioning of alternator, drive back bushes for securing bolts slightly. –  Make sure poly V-belt is properly positioned and correctly routed. 1 -  Vibration damper 2 -  Tensioner 3 -  Alternator 4 -  Power steering pump 5 -  Idler roller 6 -  Air conditioner compressor –  Install lock carrier with attachments → Rep. Gr.50. –  Install front bumper cover → Rep. Gr.63. –  Connect the battery. Additional steps required → Anchor. –  Start engine and check that belt runs properly. Tightening torques
