Removing and installing moulded headliner Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Release lever -T10039- Removing   WARNING Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter. –  Fold down backrests (rear). –  Move front seat backrests to 45° position. –  Remove A-pillar trim panels (top) → Chapter. –  Remove B-pillar trim panels (top) → Chapter. –  Remove C-pillar trim panels → Chapter. –  Remove D-pillar trim panels → Chapter. –  Remove roof end trim → Chapter. –  Remove sun visors → Chapter. –  Remove centre bracket for sun visor → Chapter. –  Remove mountings for load guard → Chapter. –  Remove roof grab handles → Chapter. –  Remove interior light/reading light (front) → Electrical system; Rep. gr.96.

Equipment version with sliding sunroof: –  Fully open sunroof -1-. –  Open sun blind -2- approx. 2/3.

–  Clean release lever -T10039- to avoid soiling moulded headliner. –  Slide release lever -T10039- along between trim frame -2- for sunroof opening and moulded headliner -1- until one of the clips -3- is located. –  Consecutively release clips with release lever -T10039- as shown -arrow-.

All vehicles (continued): –  If fitted, unscrew bolt -1- in roof cut-out for interior light/reading light (front).

Caution t  The moulded headliner is kinked very easily. t  Kinked moulded headliners must be renewed.   Note A second mechanic is required to unfasten the last connections and take out the moulded headliner. –  Release clips at retaining clip (rear) -arrows- using a small screwdriver.

–  Lower moulded headliner at left side of vehicle -arrow 1-. –  Pull moulded headliner out through rear lid opening -arrow 2-. Installing   Note t  If there are still clips for the moulded headliner in the body mounting points, they must be removed and inserted in the moulded headliner when installing. t  Check the clips for damage or deformation and renew them if necessary. Perform remaining installation steps in reverse order of removal; observe the following:   WARNING Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter. –  Before attaching moulded headliner, centre moulded headliner and press it on until clips engage audibly in trim frame for sunroof opening.
