  WARNING
Accidents and injury can be caused if a gear is inadvertently engaged while the engine is running.
Prior to performing work with engine running, move selector lever to position “P” and pull up parking brake button to apply the electronic parking brake.
Check selector mechanism before dismantling → Chapter.
   
1 - Selector lever handle
q   → Chapter „Exploded view - selector lever handle, selector lever position display -Y26-“
2 - Trim ring
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
3 - Selector lever boot
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
4 - Clip
q   Secures selector lever handle to selector lever
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
5 - Selector lever position display -Y26-
q   → Chapter „Removing and installing selector lever position display -Y26-“
6 - Nut
q   10 Nm
q   4x
q   Secures selector mechanism to body
7 - Rubber seal
8 - Selector lever sensors control unit -J587- and tiptronic switch -F189-
q   → Chapter „Removing and installing selector lever sensors control unit -J587- and tiptronic switch -F189-“
9 - Shift unit
q   Can only be renewed as a complete unit
q   → Chapter „Removing and installing shift unit“
10 - Selector lever lock solenoid -N110-
q   → Chapter „Removing and installing selector lever lock solenoid -N110-“
11 - Gear selector position P switch -F305-
q   Consists of two reed contacts on printed circuit board in selector lever lock solenoid -N110-
q   Can only be renewed together with selector lever lock solenoid -N110-, → Chapter „Removing and installing selector lever lock solenoid -N110-“
12 - Noise insulation
q   Not fitted on all vehicles; allocation → Electronic parts catalogue
13 - Retaining washers
q   4x
q   Renew
q   For securing noise insulation to shift unit
14 - Retaining clip
q   Secures selector lever cable to shift unit
15 - O-ring
q   Renew
16 - Selector lever cable
q   Do not bend or kink
q   Different versions (according to vehicle); for correct version refer to → Electronic parts catalogue
q   → Chapter „Exploded view - selector lever cable“
q   Before installing, lightly lubricate ball socket with polycarbamide grease -G 052 142 A2-.
17 - Sealing cap
q   Above selector lever lock solenoid -N110-
