Removing and installing centre differential housing with gearbox installed > < Renewing O-ring on cover for front final drive

  Caution
Risk of damage to the gearbox.
Do not run the engine or tow the vehicle if the centre differential has been removed or if the gear oil has been drained from the gearbox.
   
1 - O-ring
q   Renew
q   Lubricate with gear oil
2 - Centre differential
3 - Ball bearing
q   For centre differential
q   → Chapter „Renewing ball bearing for centre differential“
4 - Circlip
q   For ball bearing for flange shaft
5 - Circlip
q   For flange shaft
6 - Ball bearing
q   For flange shaft (rear)
q   → Chapter „Renewing ball bearing for flange shaft (rear)“
7 - Screw plug
q   For oil filler hole on centre differential housing
q   35 Nm
q   Renew
8 - Centre differential housing
q   → Chapter „Removing and installing centre differential housing with gearbox installed“
9 - Oil seal for flange shaft (rear)
q   → Chapter „Renewing oil seal for flange shaft (rear)“
10 - Flange shaft (rear)
q   Removing and installing → Chapter „Renewing oil seal for flange shaft (rear)“
q   Renew oil seal when renewing flange shaft (rear)
q   Select correct components from → Electronic parts catalogue
11 - Bolt
q   Tightening torque and sequence → Fig.
q   Renew

   
Centre differential housing - tightening torque and sequence
–  Tighten bolts for centre differential housing in three stages as follows:
1.  Tighten bolts -1- and -2- initially to 3 Nm.
2.  Tighten bolts to 8 Nm in sequence -1 ... 6-.
3.  Tighten bolts 90° further in the sequence -1 ... 6-.
