Overview:
t  → Chapter „Cleaning ATF lines and ATF cooler“
t  → Chapter „Removing and installing ATF lines - vehicles with 1.8 ltr. and 2.0 ltr. TFSI engine“
t  → Chapter „Removing and installing ATF lines - vehicles with 2.0 ltr. TDI engine or 6-cylinder engine“
t  → Chapter „Removing and installing ATF filter“
  Caution
Risk of damage to gearbox
t  All plugs inserted in ATF lines and gearbox when dismantling must be removed.
t  If you forget to remove the plugs, the ATF cooling will be ineffective and the gearbox will be damaged.
   
  Note
The illustration shows the layout of ATF lines on the 2.0 ltr. TDI engine and all 6-cylinder engines.
1 - ATF cooler
q   Integrated in radiator for engine coolant
q   Removing and installing → Engine, mechanics; Rep. gr.19
2 - ATF line (return)
q   From ATF cooler to gearbox
q   Mark relative position of ATF lines before removing to avoid interchanging
3 - ATF line (supply)
q   From gearbox to ATF cooler
q   Mark relative position of ATF lines before removing to avoid interchanging
4 - Bolt
q   5 Nm
q   First push in ATF lines with new O-rings by hand as far as stop
5 - O-ring
q   Renew
q   Lightly lubricate with ATF before inserting
6 - Bolt
q   8 Nm
7 - ATF line (supply)
q   From gearbox to ATF cooler
q   Mark relative position of ATF lines before removing to avoid interchanging
q   Nuts on pipes, 29 Nm
q   ATF lines are locked together
8 - ATF line (return)
q   From ATF cooler to gearbox
q   Mark relative position of ATF lines before removing to avoid interchanging
q   Nuts on pipes, 29 Nm
q   ATF lines are locked together
9 - Gearbox
10 - ATF filter
q   Check for cracks
q   → Chapter „Removing and installing ATF filter“
11 - Bolt
q   Renew
q   5 Nm + 90°
12 - Bolt
q   20 Nm
q   First push in ATF lines with new O-rings by hand as far as stop
q   Retaining tab of bottom ATF line should rest on thread of ATF filter
q   Retaining tab on top ATF line should rest on retaining tab on bottom ATF line
13 - Bolt
q   8 Nm
14 - Engine
15 - Clip
q   Depending on version
q   If clip is fitted, it must be re-installed after removal; otherwise ATF lines will be damaged.
q   Attach between marks on ATF lines
