Removing and installing tunnel cross member Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-

t  Gearbox support -T10337-

Removing –  Remove rear noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66.

–  Apply lifting column of engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- to gearbox from below (with gearbox support -T10337- attached). –  Slightly lift gearbox with engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-.   WARNING Risk of accident. Engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- must remain in position when work is being carried out and must not be left unattended.   Note

For illustration purposes, the gearbox support -T40173- is not shown. –  Remove bolts -arrows- for tunnel cross member.

–  Unscrew nuts -arrows- and remove tunnel cross member. Installing Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following: l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view - tunnel cross member, gearbox mounting and gearbox support“ –  Install rear noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66.
