Renewing oil seal for balance shaft (inlet side) Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Articulated wrench, 24 mm -T40175-

t  Thrust piece -T10353/1- Procedure –  Remove toothed belt for coolant pump → Chapter.   Note

Place a cloth under oil pressure switch to catch escaping oil. –  Use articulated wrench, 24 mm -T40175- to unscrew stage 3 oil pressure switch -F447--2-.

–  Detach drive sprocket -1-.

–  Press screwdriver -1- firmly onto section -2- of oil seal -arrow B-. –  Lever out oil seal -arrow A-. –  Clean contact surface and sealing surface.

–  Lubricate sealing surface of balance shaft -2- with gear oil. –  Fit oil seal -1- onto balance shaft. l  The marking „Luftseite“ („Outside“) -arrow- should be legible from the outside.

Caution Risk of damage to thread. The drive sprocket bolt has a left-hand thread. –  Apply thrust piece -T10353/1- to oil seal -1- and press into cylinder block as far as stop using bolt -2- (take care not to tilt oil seal). –  Install toothed belt for coolant pump → Chapter. –  Fill up with coolant → Anchor.
