Removing and installing catalytic converter (left-side) - vehicles with manual gearbox > < Silencers

1 - Bolt
q   23 Nm
2 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter „Stress-free alignment of exhaust system“
3 - Centre silencer
q   Combined in one unit with rear silencers as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   For removal on A5 Cabriolet: remove diagonal struts → Fig.
q   Cutting point → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
4 - Rear silencer
q   Combined as one unit with centre silencer and tailpipe as original equipment
q   For removal on A5 Cabriolet: remove diagonal struts → Fig.
q   Centre silencer, rear silencer and tailpipe can be renewed separately as required
q   Cutting point: centre silencer / rear silencer → Chapter
q   Cutting point: rear silencer / tailpipe → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
5 - Gasket
q   Renew
6 - Nut
q   23 Nm
7 - Catalytic converter
q   Protect against knocks and impact
q   Removing and installing:
t  left-side (vehicles with manual gearbox) → Chapter
t  left-side (vehicles with multitronic gearbox 0AW/automatic gearbox 0B6) → Chapter
t  right-side (vehicles with manual gearbox/multitronic gearbox 0AW) → Chapter
t  right-side (vehicles with automatic gearbox 0B6) → Chapter
q   Mounting components → Fig.
8 - Nut
q   23 Nm
9 - Gasket
q   Renew
10 - Front silencer
q   With flexible joint; do not bend flexible joint more than 10° – otherwise it can be damaged
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
q   Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
11 - Clamp (front)
q   Installation position → Fig.
q   Before tightening, align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
q   Tighten bolt connections evenly
12 - Nut
q   23 Nm
13 - Bolt
q   23 Nm
14 - Clip
15 - Tailpipe
q   Combined in one unit with rear silencer as original equipment. Can be renewed individually for repair purposes
q   Cutting point → Chapter
q   Aligning → Chapter
16 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter „Stress-free alignment of exhaust system“
17 - Nut
q   Renew
q   20 Nm
18 - Clamp (rear)
q   For separate replacement of centre and rear silencers
q   Installation position → Fig.
q   Before tightening, align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter
q   Tighten bolt connections evenly
19 - Nut
q   23 Nm
20 - Nut
q   Renew
q   23 Nm
21 - Bolt
q   23 Nm
22 - Mounting
q   Renew if damaged
q   Check preload → Chapter „Stress-free alignment of exhaust system“

   
Installation position of front clamps
–  Install clamps so that the bolt ends do not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
l  Installation position: bolt connections face outwards.

Installation position of rear clamps
–  Install clamps so that the bolt ends do not protrude beyond bottom of clamp.
l  Installation position: bolt connections face forwards.

Diagonal struts (A5 Cabriolet)
–  Remove diagonal struts -1- and -2- when removing centre silencer and rear silencer unit.
–  Install diagonal struts → Rep. Gr.42.
