Rear wiping during rear washing
For details, please refer to the description of the »rear washing« function (Chapter 7).
Rear wiping in reverse gear
The »rear wiping in reverse gear« function is activated if reverse gear is selected while the windscreen wiping function is active. This ensures that the rear window is automatically kept clear when reversing.
For a description of the windscreen wiping functions with and without the rain and light sensor -G397-, refer to Chapters 1 and 2.
The procedure is as follows:
l  The steering column electronics control unit -J527- transmits the »windscreen wiping« information across the convenience CAN bus to the onboard supply control unit -J519-.
l  If the »windscreen wiping« function is being controlled automatically by the rain and light sensor -G397-, the onboard supply control unit -J519- also evaluates the current wiper status (received over the LIN bus) to determine whether or not the wipers are currently in operation.
l  On vehicles with a manual gearbox, the onboard supply control unit -J519- receives information about which gear is currently selected directly from the gear detector switch -F208-. On vehicles with an automatic gearbox, the onboard supply control unit -J519- receives this information over the CAN bus from the automatic gearbox control unit -J217-.
l  When the vehicle has been in reverse gear for a specified period, the onboard supply control unit -J519- activates the rear window wiper motor -V12-. The rear window wiper motor -V12- is activated intermittently at regular intervals as long as the vehicle remains in reverse gear.
