Thermostat: Service and Repair
THERMOSTAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
Note:
-
Always replace seals and gaskets.
-
Cover the toothed belt with a cloth to protect it from coolant before removing thermostat.
Removing
-
Drain coolant. See: Service and Repair

Remove front bumper. See: Body and Frame/Bumper/Front Bumper/Service and Repair

Move lock carrier into service position. See: Body and Frame/Lock Carrier/Service and Repair/Procedures

Remove ribbed belt. See: Engine/Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair

Remove toothed belt. See: Engine/Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair

Remove connection mounting bolts -1- and remove connection -2-.

Remove thermostat -4-.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following:

Bleeder valve for thermostat (arrow) must be at the top.

Install thermostat -4- into engine block.

Moisten new O-ring -3- with coolant.

Install connection -2- for thermostat and tighten bolt -1- to 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.).

Fill cooling system with coolant. See: Service and Repair
