Sealing Ring In Drive Pinion, Replacing

Sealing ring in drive pinion, replacing 

(Transmission installed)

Special tools and equipment

3403 thrust piece

Note:  An inspection opening is provided on the left side of the intermediate flange to check for oil leaks (arrow) for the sealing ring in drive pinion
and the sealing ring in intermediate flange.
If oil escapes at this inspection opening, this sealing ring must be replaced.

Removing 

-

Remove center differential.

-

Removing intermediate flange for front final drive.

-

Remove intermediate pinion -2- for front final drive from transfer housing.

-

Pull drive pinion -3- from output shaft.

WARNING:  Do not reinstall spur gears that have fallen to the ground. The transmission must be replaced in this case.

Output pinion -1- remains on the drive pinion.

Drive out sealing ring using drift.

Installing 

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:

Coat outer edge and sealing lip of oil seal with gear oil.
