Engine Control Module: Component Tests and General Diagnostics
Checking ECM Voltage Supply
REQUIREMENTS:
-
Fuse for ECM OK.
PROCEDURE:
-
Connect test box VAG 1598/19 to ECM wiring harness.

Switch ignition on.

Connect VAG 1527B voltage tester between test box socket D10 (B+) and Ground (GND).
Voltage Tester Must Light Up.
If voltage tester does not light up:
-
Check for open circuit using wiring diagram, and repair as necessary.
If voltage tester lights up:

Connect voltage tester between test box socket D10 (B+) and then in sequence to test box Ground (GND) sockets A19, D3, D7, D12, E3, E7 and
E11.
Voltage Tester Must Light Up.
If voltage tester does not light up:
-
Check wiring using wiring diagram and eliminate open circuit if necessary.

Connect VAG 1527B voltage tester between test box socket B10 (B+) and engine Ground (GND).
Voltage Tester Must Light Up.
If voltage tester does not light up:
-
Check wiring between ECM connector B terminal 10 and central electrical panel using wiring diagram and, if necessary, eliminate open circuit.
