Replacement/Standard Front Seat, From November 2004

Pry off lower fastening strips - 9 - (Qty. 3) with a screwdriver.
-
Pry off side retainer strips - 1 - with a screwdriver and fold cover forward.
-
Cut upholstery clips - 10 - (Qty. 4) at protective cover for side airbag - 6 -.
-
Press latch - 3 - downward and disconnect electrical harness connector for side airbag - 2 -.
-
Remove screw - 7 -.
-
Drill out rivet - 5 -.
-
Lift side airbag - 4 - upward and remove it.
‹› Installing
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. When doing so, note the following:

Engage side airbag - 4 - into backrest frame.

Press side airbag - 4 - downward until it stops.
-
Place eye of Ground (GND) cable - 11 - between backrest frame and side airbag - 4 -.
-
Secure ground cable - 11 - with a rivet.

Replace screw - 7 -.
-
Bolt side airbag - 4 - on with bolt - 7 -.
-
Make sure that airbag cable - 13 - runs through cable guide - 14 - and is secured by clip - 12 - to backrest frame.

Use upholstery clip pliers (V.A.G 1634) to install new upholstery clips on protective cover for side airbag.

Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.

Connect the battery ground (GND) strap.
‹› Follow safety measures after connecting battery.
‹› If the Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ( K75) shows a malfunction after assembly, DTC memory must be checked with Vehicle
Diagnostic, Testing and Information System ( VAS 5051 A), cleared and then rechecked.
