Checking on Shock Tester

Shock absorber, checking on shock tester

The shock tester allows shock absorbers to be tested without removing them from the vehicle. The damping effect can be assessed on the basis of the
pointer deflection or print-out.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Boge shock tester or

^

Sachs shock tester VAG 1975 or

^

Maha shock absorber tester VAS 1990

Note:

Temperature +10° to +40° C

^

Driver in vehicle.

^

Tire inflation pressure OK.

^

Wheels of the vehicle have been placed in a central and straight position on the tire contact plates.

^

Front wheels in straight-ahead position.

^

Parking brake not applied, brake pedal not depressed.

Test results

The condition of the shock absorbers can only be evaluated as follows:

Satisfactory damping effect

or

^

Unsatisfactory damping effect

Note:
^

Intermediate readings for reduced damping performance are not possible.

^

Service life forecasts are not permitted.

^

Measured values which include the influence of the spring travel end stops will be biased.

The following values only apply to tests conducted on the test equipment listed above. If the maximum values listed below are exceeded, the
effectiveness of the shock absorber has deteriorated significantly and replacement is recommended.
