Selector lever must remain in position "D" while clamping screw is loose.

Carefully move selector lever lightly toward front and rear without shifting into another selector lever position, this releases the tension on selector
lever cable.

Check exact position of selector lever in position "D" by pushing selector lever lightly towards drivers seat -arrow A-.
Note:

Do not touch selector lever during the adjustment.

Without touching selector lever, tighten clamping screw in this position using socket and key T40031.
Vehicles with "PRNDS" shift mechanisms

Place selector lever in position "S".

Loosen rear clamping screw on selector lever cable through the hole in shift mechanism approx. one turn using socket and key T40031.
Note:

Loosen clamping screw only 1 turn. Do not remove.

Clamping screw is only accessible in selector lever position "S".
^
The selector lever must remain in position "S" with clamping bolt loosened, otherwise the setting is not correct.

Carefully move selector lever forwards and backwards slightly without shifting to a different selector lever position.

Pull selector lever completely toward rear once more until it stops in position "S" and release selector lever.
Note:

Do not touch selector lever during the adjustment.

Without touching selector lever, tighten clamping screw in this position using socket and key T40031.
Vehicles with "PRND" and "PRNDS" shift mechanisms

Install cover for shift mechanism.

Check shift mechanism.

Using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 A, the position of Multi-Function Transmission Range (TR) Switch
F125 can be compared to position on selector lever via On Board Diagnostic (OBD), 02 - Transmission electronics, 08 - Read measured value
block, display group 2 in display field -1-.
