–  Insert brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2- between brake pedal and driver's seat (depress brake pedal at least 60 mm). This closes the valves in the brake master cylinder and stops the brake fluid reservoir from running empty.
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove wheels.
–  Connect the hose of a bleeder bottle to one bleeder screw of rear brake caliper.
–  Open bleeder screw on rear brake caliper to release pressure from brake system.
–  Close bleeder screw.
  Note
Do not remove brake pedal actuator -V.A.G 1869/2-.
–  Unplug electrical connector for parking brake.
–  Unclip brake hose and electrical wire from retainer on hub carrier.
–  Remove rear brake pads → Chapter.
  Note
t  Mark brake pads when removing them if they are to be reinstalled. Fit in same position when installing otherwise uneven braking will be caused.
t  It is recommended to apply the electronic parking brake again after driving long distances.
t  The clearance between brake disc and brake pad is adjusted automatically approx. every 1000 km, unless the EPB is operated while covering this distance.
–  Disconnect brake pressure line from caliper.
–  Remove brake caliper from vehicle.
  Note
The actuator motor does not have to be removed when renewing the rear brake caliper. The new brake caliper is supplied complete with a new actuator motor.
Installing
Use new bolts → ETKA.
–  Connect brake pressure line to caliper and tighten connection.
–  Install rear brake pads → Chapter.
