Removing and installing ATF filter
Removing and installing ATF filter
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-
Removing
  Note
t  Observe the general repair instructions → Chapter.
t  Rules for cleanliness when working on the automatic gearbox → Chapter.
t  Before fitting a replacement gearbox, always blow through the ATF cooler and ATF lines with compressed air (not more than 10 bar) → Chapter.

–  Remove noise insulation panels → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66.
–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- below gearbox.

–  Remove bolt -arrow- for ATF lines.

  A37-10839
Place a cloth below the connection to catch escaping ATF.
–  Remove bolts -1- and -2-, detach ATF lines from gearbox and tie up.
–  Seal off open lines and connections with clean plugs from engine bung set -VAS 6122-.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- on ATF filter -1-.

–  Lift out ATF filter -2-.
Installing
Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following:
l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Exploded view - ATF lines, ATF cooler and ATF filter“
  Note
Check ATF filter for cracks and renew if necessary.
–  First insert ATF filter -2- into gearbox by hand as far as stop, then secure with bolts.
  Caution
Risk of damage to gearbox
t  All plugs inserted in ATF lines and gearbox when dismantling must be removed.
t  If you forget to remove the plugs, the ATF cooling will be ineffective and the gearbox will be damaged.
–  Check ATF level and top up as required → Chapter.
