Removing and installing vibration damper Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Locking pin -T10060 A-

t  Counterhold tool -T10355-

Removing –  Remove front noise insulation -1- → Rep. gr.66.

–  Take electrical connector -1- for radiator fan out of bracket and unplug connector (push retainer to the rear -arrow- and press down release catch). –  Move clear electrical wiring harness leading to radiator fan control unit -J293-.

–  Unplug electrical connectors -2- and -3-.   Note Some versions have only one radiator fan. –  Unscrew bolt -arrow- and remove radiator fan control unit -1-.

Caution If a used belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage. Before removing, mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tip pen for re-installation. –  To slacken poly V-belt turn tensioner in direction of -arrow-. –  Lock tensioner with locking pin -T10060 A-. –  Take off poly V-belt.

–  Turn vibration damper to „TDC“ position -arrow- using counterhold tool -T10355-. l  Notch on vibration damper must align with arrow marking on cover for timing chains (bottom). –  Remove bolt for vibration damper using counterhold tool -T10355-.   Caution Risk of irreparable damage to engine. To avoid disturbing valve timing, do not turn crankshaft out of „TDC“ position when vibration damper is removed.

Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following: l  Tightening torques → Chapter „Cylinder block (pulley end) - exploded view“   Note t  Renew bolt for vibration damper. t  The O-ring -1- is supplied with the bolt; lubricate with engine oil before installing. –  Lubricate sealing lip of oil seal with engine oil. –  Fit vibration damper (pay attention to shape of tooth -arrow-). –  Install poly V-belt → Chapter. –  Install radiator fan control unit -J293- → Chapter.
