Checking fuel system for leaks > < Fuel tank with attached components - vehicles with front-wheel drive
Removing and installing supplementary fuel pumpV393 - all vehicles except those with engine code CAPA
Removing and installing supplementary fuel pump -V393- - all vehicles except those with engine code CAPA
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Drip tray
   
Removing
–  Observe safety precautions → Chapter.
–  Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
–  Remove underbody trim panels (right-side) → Rep. gr.66.
–  Remove nuts -1- and -2-.
–  Move bracket -3- downwards -arrow-, disengage from body and detach.
  WARNING
The fuel can become extremely hot. This can cause injuries.
t  In extreme cases the fuel lines and the fuel can reach a temperature of 100 °C. Allow the fuel to cool down before disconnecting the lines - danger of scalding.
t  Wear protective gloves.
t  Wear safety goggles.
Risk of injury - fuel system operates under high pressure.
To reduce the pressure in the fuel system, wrap a clean cloth around the connection and carefully loosen the connection.

–  Place drip tray underneath supplementary fuel pump -V393-.
–  Unplug electrical connector -4-.
–  Remove fuel supply hoses -3- and -6-.
–  Disengage fuel return line -1- from buffer -2-.
–  Detach supplementary fuel pump -V393--item 5- with buffer.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
l  Tightening torque → Chapter „Fuel filter and supplementary fuel pump -V393- - exploded view“
l  Flow direction is marked with arrows on fuel pump housing.
All vehicles except those with engine code CAPA:
  Caution
Running when dry causes irreparable damage to high-pressure pump.
If the fuel filter, the fuel lines or the supplementary fuel pump -V393- are renewed, it is important to bleed the fuel system before the engine is started for the first time.
