01 Engine will not start until after CAN bus silence

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 90 number 10-11 dated July 7, 2010 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

Condition

^ The customer may report that the engine does not start. After waiting for several minutes (CAN bus system silence), the engine can be started.

^ The 19 - Data bus on board diagnostic interface J-533 software version is 095 or higher.

Technical Background

Communication issue on the powertrain CAN bus caused by J-533 (Gateway).

Production Solution

Modified 19 - Data bus on board diagnostic interface J-533 software in preparation.

Service

1. Check the diagnosis protocol for the following entries:

^ DTC 4719 in 01 - Engine Electronics. 

^ DTC 12583424 in 15 - Airbag.

^ DTC 1312 in 19 - Data bus on board diagnostic interface.

Besides these relevant entries, other control units may also have communication entries stored.

2. If the above entries are stored, record the value of adaption channel 7 of J-533. This value will be re-entered after the procedure.

3. Set the value of adaption channel 7 of J-533 to 000001. This will reset the necessary section of the control module's memory to default values.
