Air Spring: Removal and Replacement

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
‹› Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
‹› Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)
‹› Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1783)
‹› Insert tool 10 (V.A.G 1783/1)
‹› Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 B) with corresponding diagnostic cable.
‹› CV joint boot clamp tool (T40067)
Removing
Suspension strut (air spring suspension) is removed together with mounting bracket and upper control arms.
During assembly work, ensure no pressure points are created on suspension strut (air suspension) boot.

Place the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] See: Service and Repair/Procedures/Positioning Vehicle on

Perform system vent using (VAS 5051 A). Refer to => [ System, Venting or Filling ] See: Testing and Inspection/Component Tests and General
Diagnostics/System, Venting or Filling.

Remove wheel covers, remove cover cap on light-alloy wheels (removal hook in vehicle tool kit).

Remove wheel.

Clean air connection area.

Remove connection - 1 - on the residual pressure retaining valve - 2 -, and unclip the air line on the suspension strut.
‹› Generally, residual pressure valve - 2 - must not be loosened or removed.

Seal both connections. Make sure that no dust particles enter connections.

Remove clip - 3 - with a pair of pliers.
