Antenna Amplifier: Testing and Inspection
Rear Antenna Amplifier, Checking
Test Conditions
-
Battery OK
-
Fuse S12, 30 amp OK
-
Circuit breaker S84, 12 amp (in auxiliary relay panel I) OK
-
Rear window defogger Ground (GND) connection (located on D-pillar) OK
-
Use multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) and connector test kit VW 1594 for all electrical tests
-
Always use appropriate wiring diagram when troubleshooting

Remove left and right side D-pillar trim.
-
Leave rear antenna amplifier mounted (GND connection).
NOTE: The rear window heating elements also work as an FM antenna. The top three lines in the rear window are used for AM reception only and are
not heated.

If all specified readings are obtained:

Remove radio.

Remove antenna cable from rear antenna amplifier.

Set multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to measuring resistance (-).
-
Connect multimeter between radio end and amplifier end of rear antenna cable.
