Fuel Gauge: Testing and Inspection

Fuel Gauge
NOTE: Fuel gauge cannot be adjusted.

Remove connector from fuel gauge sender (arrow).

Connect instrument/gauge tester VW 1301 to fuel gauge sender connector as shown using jumper wires.
NOTE: Ensure connector terminals in connector housing are not shoved back during test.

Switch ignition ON.

Adjust VW 1301 as follows:
Dial setting
Gauge reads
550
Empty
58
Full
-
With VW 1301 set to 550, fuel gauge needle must lie within tolerance range (arrows -A-)
-
With VW 1301 set to 58, fuel gauge needle must lie within tolerance range (arrows -B-)
If NOT:
-
Check fuel gauge voltage supply.

Check voltage stabilizer.
If OK:
-
Replace fuel gauge.
