Rear Axle Shaft Removal & Installation
Drive axle, removing and installing
Removing
- Remove wheel cover.
- On vehicles with alloy wheels, pull cover from wheel with special tool 3208.
WARNING! Do not loosen the bolt/washer assembly for the wheel hub unless the car is standing on its wheel --- risk of accident!
- Remove wheel hub-to-drive axle mounting bolt (vehicle standing on wheels).
- Remove wheel bolts.
- Remove wheel.
- Remove brake caliper and tie up to body with wire.
- Remove brake disc.
Note:
When removing the right-side drive axle, remove the cover plate for the fuel tank.
When removing the left-side drive axle, remove the heat shield for the inner CV joint.
- Install two wheel bolts in wheel hub and use tire iron or equivalent to hold wheel and prevent turning.
- Disconnect drive axle from flange.
- Pull out ABS wheel speed sensor slightly
