Pinion Gear: Service and Repair

Replace both tapered roller bearings of pinion together, using bearings from the same manufacturer if possible.

1. Final drive housing

Clamp final drive in assembly stand: refer to "Procedures"

If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.

2. Pinion

Is matched to ring gear

If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.

3. Inner race for tapered roller bearing

-

Removing: refer to "Procedures"

Inserting: refer to "Procedures"

If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.

4. Outer race for large tapered roller bearing

-

Removing: refer to "Procedures"

Inserting: refer to "Procedures"

If these parts are replaced, adjustments are required. Refer to List of Adjustments at Rear Final Drive, Ring and Pinion Adjusting.

5. Shim S3

-

Note thickness

-

6. Spacer sleeve

-

Always replace!

7. Outer race for small tapered roller bearing

Removing: refer to "Procedures"

Installing: refer to "Procedures"

8. Inner race for small tapered roller bearing

9. Seal

11. Pinion nut
