Camshaft: Service and Repair

Camshafts, removing and installing

Removing 

-

Remove ribbed belt. Refer to Drive Belts - Mounts, Brackets and Accessories - Drive Belts - Serpentine Belt - Service and Repair -

Remove toothed belt. Refer to Timing Components - Timing Belt - Service and Repair - Procedures   See: Timing Components/Timing

Remove Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor housing and CMP sensor rotor.

Remove cylinder head cover.

-

Remove rear toothed belt guard.

-

Clean drive chain and chain sprockets and mark (with paint or similar) opposite two arrows on bearing caps.

Note:

The notches in the two camshafts must be lined up with the two arrows on the camshaft bearing caps.
The distance between the two arrows (and thus between the paint markings) is 16 rollers on the chain.

Carefully compress camshaft adjuster using 3366 bracket tensioner.

CAUTION: Do not over tighten bracket tensioner 3366. Otherwise the camshaft adjuster will be damaged.
