Fuel Supply Unit: Service and Repair
Fuel Level Sensor, Removing and Installing

Observe Safety measures.

-

Observe Rules of cleanliness.

NOTES:

-

Before starting to work on the fuel supply system, briefly open the fuel filler cap and close it again.

-

The fuel tank must not be more than 1/3-full.

-

If necessary empty the fuel tank using VAG 1433A fuel cart or other approved equipment.

Removing

-

Battery must be disconnected before removing closing flange

-

Fuel pump module removed.

WARNING!  

Fire hazard. When working on the fuel system DO NOT smoke, work near heaters or have anything in the area that can ignite the fuel or
fumes.

Carefully remove closing flange together with fuel pump module and set aside.
Hoses remain attached to closing flange.

-

Remove harness connector for sender for fuel gauge on inside of closing connector.

-

Remove sender from accumulator housing while pressing down on release tabs (lower arrow).

NOTE:  To make the illustration clearer the accumulator housing is shown without the fuel tank.

Installing

Installation is the reverse of removal, however note the following:
-

Install sender for fuel gauge into guide at outside of accumulator and push in to stop.

Install closing flange together with fuel pump module and observe notes concerning reconnecting battery.
