Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor and Relay, Checking
Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor and relay, checking
NOTE: Component locations
Required special tools and test equipment
-
VAG 1551 or VAG 1552 Scan Tool (ST) with VAG 1551/3 adapter cable
-
VAG 1598/22 test box
Checking
-
Start output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) for secondary air injection pump relay -J299-.Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Output Diagnostic Test
Mode (DTM) (Function 03)" See: Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection
Indicated on display
Output Diagnostic Test Mode ->
Secondary Air injection Pump Relay -J299-
The secondary air injection pump relay -J299- actuates the secondary air injection pump motor -V101-. The motor will run for 10 seconds or until the
button is pressed, which ends the output DTM.
If the secondary air injection pump motor does not run:
-
Separate the 2-pin connector from secondary air injection pump motor and connect VAG 1527B LED voltage tester to harness connector
terminals.
LED must blink.
If LED test light lights up:
-
Replace secondary air injection pump motor -V101-.
If LED test light does not light up but the secondary air injection pump relay clicks:
-
Check secondary air injection pump relay -J299- fuse.
If the fuse is OK:
-
Remove secondary air injection pump relay from relay panel.
CAUTION:
Before working on the electrical system:
-
Determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.
-
Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.
-
Check relay voltage supply (terminal 30) according to wiring diagram.
-
If voltage is present replace secondary air injection pump relay -J299-.
If the LED does not light up and the secondary air injection pump relay does not click:
-
Switch ignition off.
