Using the vehicle air conditioning system, cool the interior temperature of the vehicle below 70°F (21°C) and recheck amperage reading.

Depending on vehicle interior ambient temperature, the current range will be 2-8 amps at approx. 12 volts.

The amperage reading will vary as the steering wheel heats up and cools down. If there is NO amperage reading:

Replace steering wheel.

Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap.

Install airbag unit (see appropriate Repair Manual for vehicle listed).

WARNING!

Ensure that there is no person inside the vehicle when connecting battery ground strap.

Connect battery ground (GND) strap.

Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool.

-

Check all systems for stored DTC's.

-

Erase any stored DTC's.

-

After connecting battery, check vehicle equipment (radio code, clock, electric windows) as per Repair Manual and/or Owner's Manual.

-

Program radio station presets.
