Selector lever mechanism and controls, servicing 

CAUTION:  Before working on a vehicle with a running engine, place the selector lever in "P" position and apply the parking brake.

NOTES:

The starter must not operate in selector lever positions "2, "3," "4," "D" and "R."

At speeds over 5 km/h (3 mph), with the selector lever in "N" position, the shift lock solenoid must not engage and block the selector lever. The
selector lever can be moved into a driving mode.

At speeds below 2 km/h (1 mph), if the selector lever is moved into "N" position, the shift lock solenoid must only engage after approx 1 sec. The
selector lever can only be moved out of "N" position when the brake pedal is operated.
