Thermostat: Service and Repair
Note:
-
Always replace seals and gaskets.

Cover the toothed belt with a cloth to protect it from coolant before removing the thermostat.
Removing
-
Drain coolant.
-
Bring lock carrier into service position. See: Body and Frame/Lock Carrier/Service and Repair/Procedures

Remove ribbed belt. See: Engine/Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair

Remove toothed belt guard.

Loosen tensioning roller and take toothed belt off camshaft sprockets, Toothed belt, removing and installing.

Remove connection mounting bolt -1- and remove connection -2-.

Remove thermostat -4-.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, however note the following:

Moisten new 0-ring (item -3-) with coolant.

Install thermostat (item -4-) into engine block.
Note: The thermostat bleeder valve (arrow) must be at the top.

Tighten mounting bolt -1-.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.).

Install and tension toothed belt.
-
Install toothed belt guard.
-
Install ribbed belt.
-
Fill cooling system with coolant.
