Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair

Selector Shaft Seal Replacement 

NOTE:  The following special tool is necessary for this work:

3454 - Pressure piece

Removal

-

Remove left transmission support refer to Replacement. See: Transmission Mount/Service and Repair

-

Remove multifunction TR switch -F125- refer to Powertrain Management.

-

Drive spring pin -1- for front transmission selector lever - 2out (in direction of arrow), until selector lever can be pulled off selector lever shaft.

Pierce and pry out sealing ring with small screwdriver.

Installation 

-

Slide new sealing ring onto pressure piece 3454 and drive in to stop.

NOTE:  The open side of the sealing ring faces the transmission. Coat the outer surface and sealing lips of the sealing ring with a thin layer of
Vaseline.

Push spring pin back (in opposite direction) into selector lever (while lever is still removed).

Slide selector lever onto selector shaft and drive in spring pin

-

Tighten the following components to:

Multifunction TR switch -F125- to transmission: 8 Nm (71 inch lb)
Transmission support to transmission: 40 Nm (30 ft lb)
Transmission support to transmission mount: 40 Nm (30 ft lb)
Transmission mount to subframe: 40 Nm (30 ft lb)
