Connect VAG1527 diode test lamp between sockets 1 (B+) and 2 of relevant solenoid valve harness connector using test leads VAG1594
connector test kit.

Start output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) and select camshaft adjustment.  Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)
(Function 03)" See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing and Inspection

Indicated on display

Output Diagnostic Test Mode ->
Camshaft adjustment 1

When the camshaft timing control is activated the diode test lamp should start flashing.

If the diode test lamp lights up continuously:

-

Check for short to Ground (GND) in wiring from socket 2 on connector for relevant camshaft adjustment solenoid valve.

If the diode test lamp does not flash:

-

Connect VAG1598/31 test box to wiring harness for engine control module. Do not connect to the engine control module itself.Refer to "Scan
