Steering Column Lock: Service and Repair
Lock Cylinder

CAUTION!

Before working on the electrical system:

-

Determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.

-

Switch the ignition off.

-

Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) strap.

Removing

-

Remove steering column switches. Refer to  "Steering Column Switches, Removing and Installing". See: Service and Repair

-

Move transmission range selector lever to "P" position.

-

Insert ignition key and turn to "ignition on" position -B-.

-

Lift locking clip -1- slightly and pull lock cable -2- from lock cylinder housing.

NOTE:  Lock cylinder removal is only possible with the use of the second or valet key (without illumination or remote locking functions).

Insert second or valet key and turn to "ignition on."
An opening will appear in front of switch next to ignition slot.

Insert a lengthy steel wire or small screwdriver (approximately 1.5 mm or 0.060 in. dia.) as far as it will go, as illustrated, and pull lock cylinder
out of steering lock housing (in direction of arrow -B-).

Installing

-

Insert second or valet key and turn to "ignition on" position while inserting steel wire into opening as far as it will go.

-

Insert lock cylinder into lock cylinder housing.

-

Remove steel wire and make sure lock cylinder is engaged fully.

-

Install steering column switches and steering wheel in reverse order of removal.
