Camshaft Axial Clearance, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Dial gauge holder (VW 387)

Test Sequence

Remove the camshafts. Refer to one of the following:

‹› => [ Right Camshafts and Adjuster ] See: Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Right Camshafts and Adjuster.

‹› => [ Left Camshafts and Adjuster ] See: Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Left Camshafts and Adjuster.

Remove the roller rocker levers. Refer to => [ Roller Rocker Lever ] See: Rocker Arm Assembly/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement.

Install the camshafts without the chain into the cylinder head and tighten with bearing caps 3, 5 and 7.

Secure the (VW 387) to the dial gauge on the cylinder head:
