Water Pump: Removal and Replacement
Coolant Pump

Coolant Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Hose clip pliers (VAG 1921)

‹› Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024A)

‹› Drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Removing

-

Drain the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] See: Cooling System/Service and Repair/Procedures/Draining and Filling.

Remove the toothed belt. Refer to => [ Toothed Belt ] See: Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/Toothed Belt.

Remove the left rear toothed belt guard nuts - 2 -.

-

Remove the coolant pump bolts - 1 - and remove the coolant pump.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

‹› Replace the seals.

Clean the sealing surfaces at the cylinder block.

Install the toothed belt (adjust timing). Refer to => [ Toothed Belt ] See: Timing Components/Timing Belt/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/Toothed Belt.

Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] See: Cooling System/Service and Repair/Procedures/Draining and Filling.

Install the torque support. Refer to => [ Torque Bracket and Support Valve Assembly Overview ] See: Service and Repair/Torque Bracket and
Support Valve Assembly Overview.
