Accumulator: Removal and Replacement

Pneumatic Level Control System

Pressure Reservoir

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)

‹› Torque wrench (5-60 Nm) (VAG 1783)

‹› Open end spanner insert AF 10 (VAG 1783/1)

Removing

‹› The pressure reservoir is installed above the left rear muffler.

Place the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels ] See: Service and Repair/Procedures/Positioning
Vehicle on the Hoist and on its Wheels.

Vent the system. Refer to => [ System Venting or Filling ] See: Description and Operation/Level Control System.

Remove the rear portion of the exhaust system.

Remove the heat shield from the left of the vehicle underbody below the pressure reservoir.

Slowly loosen the air line - 1 - on the pressure reservoir - 2 - and allow the air pressure to escape. When the air pressure has escaped, remove the
air line - 1 -.

Remove the nuts - arrows - and the pressure reservoir - 2 -.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

Install the pressure reservoir - 2 - and tighten the nuts - arrows - to 9 Nm.
